(released
8/31/2015)
By Kimberly Burke
The Second City will be rebuilding after a fire at a next door establishment burned a portion of the historic building.
The venue which has extensive damage to the top floors of the building will need to be rebuilt and safe for patrons to re-enter the building. The Second City website states they are closed until September 6, 2015 for repairs and are hopeful to reopen for performances by Monday, September 7, 2015.
The performance space has developed comedic actors such as Jon Belushi, Chris Farley, Tina Fey, Bill Murray, Amy Poehler, John Candy, Peter Boyle, Harold Ramis, Brian Doyle-Murray, Ed Asner, and many more.
A former bakery, the building named Piper Alley, is salvageable. Comedy classes, workshops, shows and study took place before the fire and will continue once rebuilding is complete.
